Missing May and Jumping into June

Well, again time has gotten away from me and I totally missed my May posting. Being involved in two plant sales, as well as growing out my herbs and heirlooms, and I just couldn't find the time to write. Both sales, The New England Unit of The Herb Society of America, and the Greenleaf Garden Club, were successful. Thank goodness they were on different weekends!

The gardens have really popped now that we have gotten some warm weather. Rain has been a little scarce, but enough so we don't have to worry too much. I've been working on planting all those extra special things I just had to try and grow - like Cherry Red Rubeckia, Black Sorghum, Illumination Celosia. That's in addition to the 30+ varieties of tomatoes, plus all the herbs I just had to have. I managed to fit in a quick trip to Toronto to visit with my friend, Carol Little, and make a side run to see Conrad at Richter's Herbs. The IHA Conference in 2014 will be in Toronto, so I went to check on the hotel and see what Toronto has to offer. A lot to squeeze into just two days - but it really is an incredible city and I enjoyed my time there very much. Thanks, Carol and Rita, for putting me up and showing me your beautiful city!

Later this month, I head for St. Louis, MO and the HSA Conference. So getting everything planted now is crucial, since it will be too late when I return. The blueberries, raspberries and blackberries I put in late last summer are looking good, and the yard is shaping up nicely. Just keeping up with mowing, trimming and watering has me totally exhausted, but it's worth it (I think!) in the long run.

If you will be in my area, please stop by and say hello - just let me know you are coming. I still have lots of herbs and tomato plants for sale. The barn cats have had kittens, and they are too adorable. Soon I'll be making herb vinegars, butters, jellies, etc. as a way of keeping a bit of summer in my pantry. There's never enough time to do all I want, but at least it keeps me out of trouble.

Let us be grateful to people who make us happy;

they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.
